Price of public records: L.A. charges fees, but they're free in San Bernardino County

"If you've been in a car accident or the victim of a crime, you might need a copy of the police report. That will run you $23 if it's from the Los Angeles Police Department or the county Sheriff's Department.
Want to find out something about a court case? Have your credit card handy. That'll be $4.75 per name searched on the L.A. Superior Court website.

But if you're looking for the same court records in Orange County or San Bernardino County, it won't cost you a dime."
