"A Superior Court assignment judge denied a request by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office for birth dates of prospective jurors to conduct criminal background checks.
Judge Patricia Costello wrote in her opinion that the request was "fraught with constitutional issues concerning the privacy rights of citizens and the due process rights of defendants." She also called it a "problematic proposal" before rejecting the application."
