"Website Spokeo promises to give users “the most comprehensive intelligence about anyone you want to find” — and privacy advocates don’t seem to think this is a good idea.
A consumer-advocacy group filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission Wednesday alleging that Spokeo is offering detailed consumer information, such as a “credit estimate” without following government regulations. Spokeo allows users to enter names, phone numbers and the like and get information such as address, age,
ethnicity, interests and household information. For $2.95 a month,
subscribers can get information that “may include” religion, politics
and “wealth level,” according to the site."
