Google releases online dictionary service and severs links with Answers.com

 Google has quietly rolled out Google Dictionary, which provides users with synonyms and definitions – precisely what one would expect from a dictionary.

Many current online and offline dictionary providers have long expected Google to join the fray, and Google has not let them down. In addition to providing definitions from its own proprietary database of words, it also provides definitions provided by a wide variety of scholarly sources. One can bookmark words and come back later, view a list of recent searches, and even translate words into different languages.
