The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is required to publish the names of loan borrowers who have defaulted. This HHS database is searchable by borrower's name, practice area and/or state. These are doctors, dentists, chiropractors and other health professionals. HHS describes this loan program: "Between 1978 and 1998, the Health Education Assistance Loan program provided federal insurance for educational loans made by private lenders to more than 156,000 graduate health professions students."
